Weichai starters are divided into DC electric starters, gasoline starters, compressed air starters, etc. according to their working principles. Most internal combustion engines use DC electric starters, which are characterized by compact structure, simple operation and easy maintenance. The gasoline starter is a small gasoline engine with a clutch and a transmission mechanism. It has high power and is less affected by temperature. It can start large internal combustion engines and is suitable for use in alpine areas. Compressed air starters are divided into two categories, one is to drive compressed air into the cylinder according to the working sequence, and the other is to use a pneumatic motor to drive the flywheel. The purpose of compressed air starter is close to that of gasoline starter, and it is usually used for starting large internal combustion engines.
The DC electric starter is composed of a DC series motor, a control mechanism and a clutch mechanism. It is designed specifically to start engines and requires strong torque, so the amount of current to pass is large, reaching several hundred amps.
DC motors have large torque at low speeds and gradually decrease at high speeds, making them very suitable for use as starters.
The starter uses a DC series motor, and the rotor and stator parts are wound with relatively thick rectangular cross-section copper wire; the driving mechanism adopts a reduction gear structure; the control mechanism adopts electromagnetic magnetic attraction.
1. Reduction starter
A starter with a gear reducer installed between the starter's armature shaft and the drive gear is called a reduction starter.
The power of a series-wound DC motor is directly proportional to the motor's torque and speed. It can be seen that when the engine speed is increased while its torque is reduced, the starter power can be kept unchanged. Therefore, when a high-speed, low-torque series-wound DC motor is used as the starter, the size and weight of the starter can be greatly reduced with the same power. However, the torque of the starter is too low and cannot meet the requirements for starting the engine. For this reason, when a high-speed, low-torque DC motor is used in the starter, a gear reducer is installed between the motor's armature shaft and the driving gear, which can reduce the motor speed and increase its torque.
The gear reducer of the reduction starter has three different forms: external meshing type, internal meshing type and planetary gear type.
The reduction mechanism of the external meshing reduction starter uses an idler gear as an intermediate transmission between the armature shaft and the starter drive gear, and the electromagnetic switch core is coaxial with the drive gear to directly push the drive gear into mesh without the need for a fork. Therefore, the appearance of the starter is quite different from that of ordinary starters. The transmission center distance of the external meshing reduction mechanism is relatively large, so it is limited by the starting mechanism. Its reduction ratio cannot be too large, generally not greater than 5, and is mostly used on low-power starters.
The internal meshing reduction starter has a small transmission center distance of the reduction mechanism and can have a large reduction ratio, so it is suitable for starters with larger power. However, the internal meshing reduction starter mechanism is noisy, and the driving gear still needs to be moved by the fork to engage, so the appearance of the starter is similar to that of an ordinary starter.
The planetary gear reduction starter reduction mechanism has a compact structure. Large transmission ratio and high efficiency. Since the output shaft and the armature shaft are coaxial and rotate in the same direction, the armature shaft has no radial load and small vibration, so the overall size is small.
2.Permanent magnet starter
A starter that uses permanent magnet materials as magnetic poles is called a permanent magnet starter. It cancels the field winding and magnetic pole core in the traditional starter, simplifying the structure of the starter, greatly reducing the volume and mass, improving reliability, and saving metal materials.
3. Permanent magnet deceleration starter
A starter that uses a high-speed, low-torque permanent magnet motor and installs a gear reducer between the driving gear and the armature shaft is called a permanent magnet reduction starter. The volume and mass of the permanent magnet deceleration starter can be further reduced, and it has been widely used.
