The engine tensioner generally consists of a tensioning wheel, a tensioning arm, a tensioning cylinder, a pressure plate, etc. Among them, the tensioner is the most critical component. It is pressed against the crankshaft belt through the tensioner arm to ensure that the crankshaft and camshaft operate synchronously. The main function of the engine tensioner is to maintain the tension of the crankshaft belt to ensure the normal operation of the engine. If the tensioner fails or becomes loose, the crankshaft belt will loosen, causing the synchronization relationship between the crankshaft and camshaft to fail, and in severe cases, engine damage.
According to different structures and working principles, engine tensioners can be divided into two types: mechanical and hydraulic:
1. Mechanical tensioner: uses the friction between the tensioning arm and the tensioning wheel to maintain tension. It has a simple structure and is easy to maintain. However, limited by the performance of traditional friction materials, the life of mechanical tensioners is relatively short.
2. Hydraulic tensioner: A hydraulic cylinder driven by pressure oil is used to control the position of the tensioning arm, so that the tensioning wheel maintains a certain tension and has a longer life than a mechanical tensioner. However, maintenance is more complicated due to damage to the hydraulic oil seal and other reasons.
In order to ensure the normal operation of the engine tensioner, we need to perform regular maintenance on it:
1. Regularly check the working status of the tensioner. If looseness or failure is found, replace it in time.
2. Replace the crankshaft belt regularly to ensure its normal operation and maintain a certain tension.
3. Regularly replace the tensioner and crankshaft belt accessories, such as bearings, seals, etc., to ensure their sealing and stability.
