The exhaust gas turbocharger is mainly composed of a turbine and a compressor. The exhaust gas from the engine is introduced into the turbine, and the energy of the exhaust gas is used to push the turbine to rotate, thereby driving the compressor coaxial with the turbine to achieve supercharging. The turbine air inlet is connected to the engine exhaust manifold, and the exhaust port is connected to the exhaust pipe; the compressor air inlet is connected to the air filter, and the exhaust port is connected to the intake manifold.
A turbine is a device that converts the energy of the engine exhaust into mechanical work. It consists of a fixed nozzle ring, a rotating impeller and a turbine shell. The nozzle ring and impeller combination are called turbine stages. In some small turbochargers, in order to reduce the volume, reduce weight and simplify the structure, the nozzle ring is often eliminated, and the turbine shell also serves as the nozzle ring. This is called a bladeless turbine shell. The impeller of the turbine and the working wheel of the compressor share a rotating shaft, and the three make up the rotor. The rotor is supported by radial bearings and axial thrust bearings. Since the rotor rotates at a high speed, its dynamic balance must be strictly checked and the bearing type must be appropriately selected to ensure reliable operation of the turbocharger.
Also called a centrifugal compressor, it consists of an air inlet, a working wheel, a diffuser and an outlet volute. In a small turbocharger, the inlet duct and the outlet volute are arranged on the same casing, called the compressor casing. Diffusers are divided into vane diffusers and vaneless diffusers.
